Saturday saw us welcome FA Vase finalists Cockfosters to The Lane and despite lots of changes at the club since last season they still brought a strong physical team over to play us and our team had a number of changes from last weeks team at Tilbury two enforced obviously after the injuries, but we started the game really strong pinging the ball around and dominated the opening 20 minutes but just couldn’t get on to that final ball. Cockfosters then came into the game and after three successive corners they too the lead with a well worked header 25 minutes 0-1. We huffed and puffed a bit through the remainder of the half with one big chance falling to Josh who just dragged it wide. Half time found us behind 0-1.
Again we started stronger of the teams in the second half and looked more likely to score but they defended well and looked dangerous on the break too so our back four had to remain alert, then we got our breakthrough after a quick free kick and great work by Freddie Brown crossing brilliantly the clearance was met on the edge of the penalty area on the volley by Tom Mulqueen for his second goal of the season 1-1 62 minutes gone. The game lost a bit of structure at this point as substitutions were made by both teams and despite us pressing for the winner it was Cockfosters who hit us on the break with a really well worked move and their forward slotted home 1-2 75 minutes gone. At this point we were still pushing forward and saw some nearly moments come and go until Avto brilliantly took his full back on and cut the ball back for our debutant Lewis Nicholls to slot the ball home 2-2 with only a few minutes remaining.
Probably a fair result at the end of the day and when you are losing with only minutes left its better to take a draw and move on
Thanks for your support Saturday I think the crowd saw a well contested game, hope to see you all Tuesday night home to Potton United in the league
