Bank Holiday Blues
Today’s game kicked off with a significantly depleted squad due to the bank holiday weekend, with Charlotte Grogen making her league debut. Despite the light squad, we remained confident of securing a win to make it two from two at the start of the season.
We started the game strong and aggressive, creating two early chances that fell to Holly Fox and Aimee Burling. Unfortunately, neither was able to convert, but this period of pressure allowed us to settle into our rhythm. As the half progressed, we created more opportunities, but the Hertford keeper comfortably dealt with the attempts.
We went into half-time with the scoreline at 0-0. Coming out of the blocks quickly and aggressively once more, we pressed forward, but Hertford found space between our centre-backs. Around the 55-minute mark, Nicole Emmings found herself in space and calmly slotted the ball into the net.
As the second half wore on, chances became few and far between as the Blues from Hertford tightened their defence, making it difficult for us to break them down. Despite a few good spells of pressure in the final 10 minutes, including hitting the post from a corner and narrowly missing the far post, Hertford’s well-disciplined and experienced side, coupled with our notable absences, proved too much to overcome.
Hertford takes the points in what is always a closely contested fixture against fellow promotion hopefuls, with each of the last few matches decided by a single goal. The rivalry continues to intensify. Now, we turn our focus to next weekend’s 1st round qualifier against familiar foes, Hitchin Belles Blues.
