Double delight for our ladies.
2 quick second-half goals saw the worms secure their place in the next round of the FA Cup.
A hot summers day made conditions less than perfect, but that didn’t deter the worms from turning up the heat in their bright yellow kit.
The ladies started quickly in the first half of their opening round fixture against firmiliar foes in Hitchin Belles, a team we know well from our time in the county leagues, a team who untill now proved to be a thorn in the side, of the three previous meetings we were unable to secure a win, today proved our time to not only beat the side responsible for past miseries, but historically making our way through the first round of this prestigious and magical competition.
A mostly dominant display through out, left the home side, unable to break out the middle third, as they failed to register a shot or find their way into the away sides box. With plenty of chances In the first half, the home side did well to contain the Wormley to long range efforts, Hitchin knew that making it to half time 0-0 was as good as it could get.
The second half kicked off and we exploded into action, with out first being scored by Emily Schofield on the 46th minute, after a great run out wide from full back Gracie Manning, cutting the ball back to Chelise Fleming who played a cute ball through the opposition defence for the on running Emily Schofield to open the scoring as she buried it home as the keeper remained routed to the ground.
3 minutes later we hit a second, as Savanah Japal, dominated the wide area beating the left back as she played a low driven ball across the 6 yard box, to Holly Fox who’s experienced eye spotted the 16 year old wonder kid Katie Church as she remained composed and put the ball out of the keepers reach, much like a player beyond the years she is.
The worms continued to keep the pressure on late into the game, proving to strong for the Herts and Beds prem side.
A truly dominant display throughout the tie and a historical win as we book our place in the next round, with a local Derby against neighbours St Margaretsbury
Away waiting for us on 22nd September.
