The 2026/2027 season is officially underway. Our first game saw us take on Newport Pagnell Town FC at the lane. A cagey first half between two good sides with one goal scoring opportunity of note for each team.
The first coming from a corner which caused a goal mouth scramble, leading to the visitors hitting the cross bar.
The Wormley opportunity came from good work down the right hand side again from Avto who had already had a successful dribble into the opponent’s box, only to hit the side netting. This time Avto went past the full back and fired a low cross for striker Lanre Balogun to tap in from close range. 1-0 to the Worms!
The second half saw Wormley looking to add to their lead with a close effort from Lanre just going wide of the post. Another good move down the left this time lead to Tom Mulqueen shooting over after a good pull back from Torion Edmunds. We’ll blame the famous Wormley bobble for that, Tom.
The wormley second goal came from Lanre latching on to a ball over the top and he did well to keep the ball alive in the oppoents box, squaring the ball to Bailey Eden to slot home. 2-0 to the Worms!
From then on in Wormley did a great job of nullifying the opponents, and while we could have kept the ball better, we didn’t give up a chance of note. Debutant keeper Tiernan Parker dealt with crosses well and the back 4 were dominant, supported by Ryan Stevenson in the 6 position.
Right back Alex Awobimpe was awarded the POTM by committee member Colin Vaughan.
A good start to the season against a strong opponent and a great crowd too, we hope to see you all again next time. COYW.
