Men's First Team

Away vs Harpenden Town

Our men’s first team travelled to Harpenden reasonably confident given last week’s 3-2 Charity Cup win against them but recognising that as a side who played in the play offs last year it was going to be a big test for our side once again. In a first half where both teams created half chances Harpenden edged it hitting both the bar and then the post with a couple of cracking strikes on goal. A few injuries broke up the play and Carlos our keeper spent most of the half limping following a challenge from a long throw in into the six-yard box. Harpenden had plenty of corners which intensified the pressure, but our defence held firm and we looked very dangerous when we got our passing game going and just failed with the final ball or to get a shot off in time. The second half was much the same with no clear chances for us but Harpenden spending more of the half attacking us but it was a night when defenders came out on top and despite picking up a few injuries on a very hard to work out 3G pitch where the bounce seemed to hold the ball up we were happy in the end to get a very well deserved point against a very strong team. Lots of teams will lose at their place this season. Full Time 0-0, next up FA Cup trip to Heybridge Swifts.
