Welcome everyone to The Lane today’s FA Vase second qualifying round match having beaten Potton united 2-0 in the last round. We have not had a home game since the 1st of September which is crazy scheduling but we now have a run of games at home so we must make the most of them in the coming weeks.for our opening game of this new season 2026/27.

Firstly I would like to offer a warm welcome to the players officials and supporters of Eynesbury Rovers who we play for the first time in our history today and play in the United Counties league. Hope their journey down was ok as it isa long journey for them.

To say we have been ravaged by injuries is an understatement and the last five weeks results have reflected the fact that we have so many injuries plus not being able to put te same team out for two games in a row presents its own challenges.

Three defeats and a draw do not really reflect the efforts of the players in the last four league games and after a good start to the Eason it has definitely rocked us a bit but good first half against top of the table Risbrough and being at 0-0 at half time before the sending off gives us hope we are not far away from where we need to be.
Two poor performances against both Cockfosters and Harpenden did not help but a commanding performance against Potton in the vase in the middle of the above gives us hope for today and we certainly hope to progress.

Missed chances cost us last week in our 1-1 draw at Kempston which ultimately was a game of two free kicks, theirs in the 2nd minute was decent but Tom Mulqueens equaliser in the 38th minute was right in the top corner and an outstanding goal. We created lots of chances but just could not find a finish which was hugely disappointing but a draw is not a defeat so we move on.

Time to forget the league today and give our best in the FA Vase so please get behind the lads and see us through. It’s straight to penalties if game is level at 90 minutes today.

Ryan and his management team are working hard to improve the squad to assist with the injuries and this week we welcome Izu, Zach and Malachi who bolster the group.

Still time to get involved if you would like to sponsor a player, a match ball or even get involved in our bonus ball for £2 a week there are lots of ways you can help the club going forward, please just ask any of the committee.

Thank you as always to all our sponsors particularly ALM, Usdaw, Harrison Hayes and Robyland who have again stepped up this year and to all our pitchside sponsors thank you so much for your support.

Hope you enjoy the game and thanks for your support COYW.

Welcome to our opponents

The club was established in 1897. After playing friendly matches, they joined the Biggleswade & District League, before switching to the St Neots Junior League.[1] The club won the league in 1910–11 and went on to win their first major honour, the Hunts Senior Cup, in 1913–14.[2] They won the Hunts Junior Cup in 1921, 1927 and 1932, and were champions of Division Two of the Bedford & District League in 1926–27, 1930–31 and 1931–32.[1] In 1934 they joined Division Two of the South Midlands League and were promoted to Division One at the end of the first season in the league, which saw them finish as Division Two runners-up.[3] After World War II the club switched to the United Counties League.[4] They won the Hunts Senior Cup four times between 1946 and 1951,[5] and the Hunts Premier Cup in 1951, before joining the Eastern Counties League in 1952, becoming the most westerly club ever to play in the league.[2]

Eynesbury won the Hunts Senior Cup again in 1954–55 and 1956–57.[5] However, financial problems forced the club to revert to amateur status.[2] In 1960–61 they failed to win a league match all season and gained only three points, finishing bottom of the league.[4] Although they won the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup the following season, in 1962–63 they again finished bottom of the league and left to rejoin the United Counties League. They continued to struggle, finishing in the bottom two for five of the next eight seasons, although they did win the Senior Cup again in 1969–70.[5] At the end of the 1971–72 season they finished bottom again and were relegated. In 1976–77 they won the (now-renamed) Division One and were promoted back to the Premier Division.[2] The club won the Hunts Senior Cup in 1984–85 and then three times in a row between 1990–91 and 1992–93.[2] Further wins were achieved in 1995–96 and 1999–2000.[5]

In 2000–01 Eynesbury finished bottom of the Premier Division and were relegated to Division One.[4] The following season they won their fifteenth Senior Cup.[5] In 2012–13 the club were Division One runners-up and promoted to the Premier Division.[4] They won the Senior Cup again in 2016–17.[6] At the end of the 2018–19 season the club were transferred to the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League. Two seasons later they were transferred back to the United Counties League, joining the Premier Division South. In 2024–25 the club won the League Cup for the first time, beating Lincoln United 2–0 in the final. They also finished fifth in the Premier Division South, qualifying for the promotion play-offs, in which they lost 5–0 to Aylestone Park in the semi-finals.
