Wormley Rovers FC vs. MK Irish

Spartan South Midlands Football League, Premier Division

Date: 15 February 2025

Kickoff: 15:00

View from the chair

Welcome everyone to the Lane for todays SSML encounter vs table toppers and clearly a very strong team Milton Keynes Irish a team we played away earlier in the season when we played well in patches but still ended up on the wrong end of a 3-0 result although in fairness to our lads their keeper pulled off two absolute worldies in the first half. One thing they did have on the day was great support from their fans and I have to say the club officials were very welcoming and therefore as always I would like to offer a warm Wormley welcome to their players, management team, officials and supporters.

Last week saw us comfortably beat Arlesey Town and the 3-1 scoreline actually does not tell the whole story as we were far and away the better side on the day and could easily have run out 5 or 6-1 winners. It was an outstanding team performance with every element of the team playing well none more so than two goal Josh Asiedu, with two volleyed finishes that would easily grace a bigger stage. Some real top performances from Cormac Clark, Ryan Stephenson and Man of the March Noah Mosanya who ran the Arlesey back four ragged all afternoon culminating in a couple of them unfortunately seeing red cards late on for very late challenges having already been booked. Debutant Wilberforce scored as well coming off the bench to round things off nicely so a belated welcome to the club Wilber a goal is always the best way to introduce you to the Wormley faithful.

Today should be a great game as MK Irish currently sit 1st in the league with us pushing hard to secure a play off place in our first season at this level.

It has been another disappointing week where the weather has once again played its part as after switching Tuesday nights fixture to our ground against Aylesbury Vale Dynamos after theirs was waterlogged again, ours too didn’t quite make it after heavy rain all through Monday and Monday night which despite working valiantly our groundsmen couldny shift enough of it to get the game on.

We are in good shape injury wise at the moment after a spell earlier in the season where injuries took its toll but our young squad learnt lessons quickly and have adapted to the challenges in front of them and are ready for a busy few months and we come into the game in good form but this will be another tough test against the team that have raised the bar in this league this season

The clubhouse is finally on the very last small touches of its refurbishment, and we are very proud of it. I must also pay tribute to our Bar manager Andy and his team behind the bar who work incredibly hard and play a huge part in the clubs success. Thanks also to Adam and the young ladies in the cafe who contribute so much also to our club.

Unfortunately I am not here today but I really hope you enjoy your visit to the club and today’s game and hopefully you will get to see some good football too.

Kind regards

Welcome to our opponents

NEW BEGINNINGS

On June 1st 2020, the club was formed when Milton Keynes Robins, Unite MK and Milton Keynes Irish Veterans joined together to operate as one club going into the 2020-21 season, Milton Keynes Irish FC! The first team playing at Step 6 in the Spartan South Midlands Division One, the newly formed reserve team playing in the UCL Reserve Division and the Veterans playing in the Veterans League Division One.

FLYING START & PROMOTION

Our first season as a club was unfortunately brought to an early finish due to the effects of COVID-19. The 2020-21 season was looking to be very promising as we found ourselves sitting second in the table after 9 games played with the best PPG in the league and went on an exciting run in the FA Vase which saw us get knocked out in the 3rd round on penalties after advancing through 4 rounds beating three higher league opposition. The season was officially curtailed however due to performances under Milton Keynes Robins, the club earned promotion to the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division (Step 5) based on PPG over the previous 2 seasons.

IRISH YOUTH & UHLSPORT UCL

In 2021-22 the club saw the beginning of MK Irish Youth, our own Youth setup, by joining with MK College and Scot FC which featured 8 teams between Under 7’s to Under 18’s. After a steady first season at Step 5 the club earning a mid-table place, we were moved to the Uhlsport UCL Premier South for what would only be a short stay. The club would only feature for one season before moving back to the Spartan South Midlands along with our Reserve Team to play in the Premier Division and Division 2.

BACK TO THE SPARTAN

Back in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division for the 2023-24 season, the club enjoyed what was an exciting season seeing numerous club records broken along the way. The First Team finished 2nd in the league setting and reached the First Qualifying Round in the FA Cup for the first time in our history. Ultimately, the boys fell short of the league leaders by 6 points and then lost in the First Round of the SSML Premier Division playoffs ending our hopes of promotion for the season.
