Welcome everyone to the Lane for todays SSML encounter vs high flying Tring Athletic a team we played away earlier in the season when we played well in a very tight game that we just edged 2-1. One thing they did have on the day was great support from their fans and I have to say the club officials were very welcoming and therefore as always I would like to offer a warm Wormley welcome to their players, management team, officials and supporters.
Last weekend saw us defeated at home to a very strong MK Irish team, we started slow and never really recovered in all honesty an early goal and then one on the half hour mark saw them lead 2-0 at the break. We rallied after half time and after scoring through Noah Mosanya were dominating the game searching for an equaliser when we got caught on the break to a superb headed goal so lost 3-1 to a very good side who will deservedly win the league this year.
Tuesday night we travelled to second placed Cockfosters where we started the game on the front foot straightaway and found ourselves 3-0 up in the first twelve minutes, a brilliant diving header from Louie Offer opened the scoring, literally whilst we were getting our breath Dec Enche fired home before great wing play from Josh Asiude gave Noah Mosanya a tap in. we continued to create chances but let a scrappy goal in before half time before George Beattie chipped home after half time to make it 4-1. A late goal from a very long throw gave the score a more respectable look for the home side but our young side reacted brilliantly to Saturdays loss and really set high standards on the night to come out worthy winners
We are in good shape injury wise at the moment after a spell earlier in the season where injuries took its toll but our young squad learnt lessons quickly and have adapted to the challenges in front of them and are ready for a busy few months and we come into the game in good form but this will be another tough test against a very good opponent.
The clubhouse is finally on the very last small touches of its refurbishment, and we are very proud of it. I must also pay tribute to our Bar manager Andy and his team behind the bar who work incredibly hard and play a huge part in the clubs success. Thanks also to Adam and the young ladies in the cafe who contribute so much also to our club.
I hope you enjoy your visit to Wormley today and hopefully you will get to see some good football and want to return again

THE EARLY YEARS
Tring Athletic Youth FC was formed in March 1958 by a group of local men who contributed towards the purchase of 3.4 acres at Miswell Lane. The cost of providing changing rooms, fencing, equipment and ownership of the ground was approximately £2,000, a lot of money in those days. Committee members, players and friends carried out most of the work, including the building of the changing rooms and during the early days the team had to play on another pitch in Tring. Originally the Club was formed to provide football for youngsters aged under 21 and despite playing against adult teams we won many trophies in the West Herts Saturday League during the early 1960’s including the Division 1 title 3 times in 5 years.
SOUTH MIDLANDS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
In 1988 we joined the South Midlands and as a result gained senior status with the Herts FA. We established ourselves in the South Midlands by gaining promotion to the newly formed Senior Division in 1993. In the subsequent seven years, we won money trophies and cups as we we established ourselves as one of the premier teams in the league.
THE NEW MILLENNIUM
We continued our success into the new millennium and can boast success in the Herts Senior Trophy, the League Cup, the Cherry Red Brooks Trophy. We finished 3rd in the table in 2003/04 and won the League Cup for the 2nd time, to make 12 major trophies in 7 years.
SEASON 2004/05 – New season at a new ground in a new division with fantastic facilities. First team finished 6th in the Premier Division and also won the St Mary’s Cup for the 3rd time defeating Hemel Hempstead in the Final. We were also Runners Up in the South Midlands Floodlit Cup Final losing on penalties to Oxhey Jets. Played in the FA Vase for the first time.
2011 TO 2020
SEASON 2010/11 – The First team finished in the highest position, runners up to Chalfont St Peter in the SSMFL Premier Division. They also won the St. Mary’s Cup for the fifth time, defeating Leverstock Green 2-1 after extra time. The season finished with a 2-0 defeat to Royston Town in the South Midland Floodlight Cup Final.
SEASON 2018/19: The First Team were Runners Up in SSMFL Premier Division, equalling our best ever position. The Reserves were Suburban Football League Central Division Champions and the “A” Team were Herts Junior Cup Winners and West Herts Senior Cup Finalists.
SEASON 2019/20. Massive change at the club with long serving manager Kevin Richardson standing down and 14 from the previous year’s successful squad moving on to other clubs. Kevin Christou took over the reins for six months, replaced by Chris Juraszek, who had run our reserve team for several years. Chris’ remit was to return the club to its traditional values of operating prudently and developing local talent, which he did. In a season truncated due to covid we finish second.
2020 TO DATE
SEASON 2020/21. A season decimated due to the covid pandemic, playing in fits and starts and behind closed doors until finally the league took the decision to cancel the competition.
SEASON 2021/22. We began this season with a new management team, headed by Ryan Sturges and Lee Groves, both former players at the Club. The covid pandemic provided us with the opportunity to complete a number of behind-the-scenes projects including installing new floodlights and re-furbishing the clubhouse. Our victory in the Premier Division Cup Final was just reward for the players and for the behind the scenes group.
SEASON 2022/23. We finish ninth in the league, whilst the highlight of the season was our unprecedented run in the FA Vase competition, losing only narrowly in the fifth round to Bury.
SEASON 2023/24.
After a sluggish start we have a great second half of the season and finally finished 6th, just one position shy of a play off place. We win the Herts Charity Shield, beating Oxhey Jets in the final. Our midweek U18 side win the Southern Counties Youth League, unbeaten during the season and with a great FA Youth Cup run to cap it off.
SEASON 2024/25. We begin the new season full of optimism – (like every other club). We will be fielding five teams, all of whom will be looking to be highly competitive in their respective leagues. The first team has made a strong start and have ambitions to kick on in a push for promotion.
